The College started
as Kalahandi Science College
from 18th July 1960
continued as a Pvt.
College till
30.11.1961 was taken over by the Government of Orissa
on 1.12.1961. It was
then renamed as
Govt. Science
College,
Bhawanipatna. With its vertical academic growth the College was conferred with Autonomous Status in 2002 and now it has added a new feather to its cap – the status of
“College with Potential for Excellence”.
In 2005 the College was accredited by
NAAC with Grade
"B++".
The College is situated in the KBK (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) region, one of the most backward regions of the Country. It caters to the hopes and aspirations of the vast tribal populations of the area as a Temple of learning for Higher Education.
At present, this College with its head high stands as one of the front ranking institutions in Orissa. It serves this backward region eagerly to keep the eternal flame of learning, knowledge and competence ablaze so that the young aspiring minds of this locality prepare themselves to serve the country at large.
The College offers a variety of courses at different levels. Besides Arts, Science and Commerce at Higher Secondary and Degree levels the College also offers MA in six subjects – Economics, English, History, Geography, Oriya and Political Science.
Teaching facilities are also available in applied course such as Archaeology & Museology
and Functional
English. Also on the
offer is a
self-financing
degrees course in
Computer Science and
one year P.G.D.C.A.
